Maya Angelou, a celebrated poet and author, speaks to Oprah Winfrey about Unity. How Unity Started
Unity is a cornerstone of the New Thought movement, inspiring some of the world’s most influential thinkers, including Maya Angelou, Wayne Dyer, Betty White, Florence Scovel-Shinn and Marianne Williamson (just to name a few).
Founded in the late 1800s, Unity began when Myrtle Fillmore cured herself of tuberculosis through Christian principles, Somatic Body spiritual practices and prayer. Her husband, Charles, adopted her methods, and together they created a movement that has reached millions globally.
Known for its teachings on healing, prosperity, and spiritual awakening, Unity continues to offer timeless principles that resonate across generations, encouraging individuals to live with faith, purpose, and an elevated consciousness. Its legacy of spiritual transformation remains vibrant and relevant today.

MEET OUR SPIRITUAL LEADER
REV.RACHEL WOTTEN
Rachel's young journey began as a gypsy, traveling from city to city in a caravan awakening spiritual gifts at an early age. At 18, she joined the Australian Army, becoming one of the first women to train men to become soldiers and also serving overseas with the United Nations in a war-torn environment. She left the military after 10 years, her spiritual gifts reawakening and ready to conquer the business world.
Her ambition then led her to a 20-year career in corporate technology, working with industry giants like IBM, HP, and Sun Microsystems (now Oracle). Despite her demanding corporate career, Rachel maintained a successful side hustle as a spiritual healer and reader (gifts awakened whilst in the Army).
During her corporate years, she discovered Catherine Ponder and Unity, leading her to spend eight years studying Unity metaphysics and eventually becoming a Metaphysical and Mystical Minister.
Rachel is passionate about all things mystical and also loves traveling, innovation, and cherishing time with her Māori husband and son.
*NOTE: Rachel only works one day a week at Unity, so responses maybe delayed.

This beautiful Maori proverb translates to “What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.” It is what we at Unity aim to embody in all that we do.
